Hurricane Web Design

I walked out of The University of Texas in 1982, with a BBA in Data Processing & Analysis in my fist, and began my IT career. Twenty-seven years and three companies later, I was laid off in May 2009, a casualty of the recession.

Although I started out as a Cobol programmer, I left programming early on in favor of mainframe O/S support. But what I really wanted, was to be on the front line, not buried in a large computer department. So I made my way into field work doing system installation and support, and finally writing interfaces in the health care environment.

As I reflected on where I needed to go next, it seemed that I had come full circle. I felt ready to get back to the "man vs. machine wrestling match" that was programming. Learning the web design architectures seemed to make the most sense, so I began a self-study course and am continuing to work on growing those skills. It is a challenge, and I am having a ball.
